‘So what is this clip?’ I hear you ask. ‘More sporting accidents? Why should I bother watching it?’ To which I would reply, ‘Yes, more sporting accidents but these are the crème de la crème, and make no mistake.’ You might ask, ‘Is it sophisticated drawing room comedy?’ Frankly no. ‘Is it tasteful?’ Hell no. ‘BUT is it funny?’ Oh yes indeed, and that’s the most important thing when watching clips on the internet. At number 6 on this weird pop chart is a truly absurd gymnastics accident during which this guy jumps so far that he actually looks like he is flying. He ends up smacking his head into one of those bouncy blocks they use in the sport. Watching him go is really mindblowing. You’ll be left thinking, ‘How the hell’d he do that without the aid of some kind of equipment?’ In at number 5 is a frankly horrific accident happening to a racing car which manages to be reduced to only half a chassis and one wheel before it goes skidding and sliding into a crash barrier. I’m certain this accident was fatal which kinda detracts from the humor element but never mind. Number 4 is a motor racing accident but even more absurd – on a tight corner one car flips out totally, spinning through the air before crashing down on to the race track in a frenzy of smoke and busted smithereens. Now everyone knows ice hockey is a rough old sport and clip number 3 really does that side of it justice, what with an player getting all cut up by an ice skate and bleeding profusely all over the rink. Number 2 doesn’t disappoint either – a football quarterback runs with the ball only to be tackled and break his leg in a seriously flexible and bendy way. It’s so absurd you gotta just see it! And now ladies and gentlemen for the grand finale, the number 1 weirdest and funniest sporting accident is (drum roll please) another hockey player who, after a collision at the goal mouth, bleeds like a goddam waterfall from his throat. Let’s hope he survived that ‘little scratch’.

Picture the scene: a pro motorbike race sponsored by Castrol and all the other big-hitters, this is no doubt a big day for our biker being filmed. He revs up a little too quick and the bike skids away from him at top speed while he takes a painful fall to be left floundering on the track. Side-splitting or what? And he’s not the only one who takes a painful fall – a parasitic photographer who thinks he can steal a shot of the poor biker’s misfortune goes running alongside the track and trips over like an idiot. I think they call that getting a taste of your own medicine. In the world of crazy clips they call this a ‘double fail’ and it makes sense because the biker would have failed in his attempt to win the race the moment it started, and the photographer’s painful fall resulted in him failing to capture anything of interest on his camera. You have to find the coincidence side-splitting though: the biker goes and soon after that the photographer goes. Maybe it’s just some weird cosmic law that applies to motorbike races just as it does to everything else: when someone makes a serious, first-class, A-grade screw-up someone else nearby has to as well. When things go wrong EVERYTHING goes wrong! That biker is certainly now famous on You Tube but obviously not for winning races. Perhaps if things don’t work out and he keeps taking painful falls, he could make a career move to become a kind of bad Evil Knieval who always messes up his stunts instead of pulling them off. Just a weird thought! Who knows, some sick folks might like to see a biker totally misjudging the ramp and plummeting down a cliff to his death or colliding head-on with the VIP section of the motorbike race track. This whole new sport could be called ‘snuff racing’ and might well catch on in our sick and bizarre world, although it’s pretty obvious that there wouldn’t be many bikers who’d end up making more than one film.

Is your idea of humor watching highly-paid professional sportsmen behave like animals, kicking, punching, spitting and falling around the place like drunks? Would you be the kind of person who would laugh rather than cry when he fast forwards to the 2 minutes 50 seconds mark to watch the piece de resistance – goalkeeper Dida getting hit by a firecracker thrown by a crowd member during a European Champions League game? If the answer is yes then you’ve come to the right place! The days of fair play and sportsmanship are truly over and the evidence lies in this clip gathered from what some people call football matches and others call soccer games around the world. Most crazy of all is the crowd trouble segment towards the end, where policemen in what looks like a South American stadium bundle a pitch invader to the ground only to receive a flying kick in the head by one of the players involved in the game! We then move from the sublime to the ridiculous when a soccer player in white does some neat little tricks, is dispossessed of the ball by a player in green before the whole thing descends into a mass brawl between both teams, eventually embroiling the black-clad stewards hanging out on the periphery. The incident gets so out of hand that the barrier separating the crowd from the pitch is smashed flat by the stampede of naughty soccer players, officials and God knows who else who is now involved. Schadenfreude, the German term for enjoying other people’s misfortune, certainly applies to this clip. A blue-clad soccer player tries a nifty little back-heel trip only to slip up and horribly injure himself. A player taking a penalty kick completely messes it up and hardly touches the ball much less slam it past the goalkeeper. A particularly muddy goal mouth results in a ball getting stuck when instead it should have gone right in to the goal no problem. If you like soccer or even if you don’t and you just enjoy watching people make £$%^s of themselves, check this link out pronto!
